Cristi Lebron Selected for the U.S. Air Force/FIRST Leadership Experience

Cristi Lebron, Walker’s Lower School and Middle School robotics coach, has been selected as one of 24 participants in the U.S. Air Force/FIRST Leadership Experience to be held July 14-18 at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio. There were approximately 300 applicants for the program.
Throughout the three-day experience, mentors will attend lectures, take part in team building exercises, and tour a local Air Force Base. The Air Force selected a group of 24 teachers and mentors from FIRST Tech Challenge and FIRST Robotics Competition teams who are helping inspire today’s youth to become the technical leaders of tomorrow.
“At Walker, we've been working to grow our technology and robotics programs. I thought it would be a great opportunity to strengthen my leadership skills, especially in the area of robotics,” Lebron stated as she explained her motivation for her application submission.
When asked what she hoped to bring back to her students, Lebron shared, “Our robotics program is not only about building robots, it is about innovation, creativity and leadership. We are providing students the opportunity to be a part of a team, work together, and learn engineering skills as well leadership skills. I hope this workshop will help me to better provide those opportunities to our students.”
In addition to her role as the Lower School and Middle School robotics coach, Lebron serves as Walker’s Middle School and Upper School technology department chair and Middle School technology teacher.
