The goal of the Strength and Conditioning program is to provide student athletes with proper instruction to prepare for competition and prevention of injury.
CLASSES
The Strength and Conditioning program is an evolving department focused on providing safe, structured and beneficial training for Walker student-athletes. Fitness classes are offered to all Upper School students. Proper lifting and spotting techniques are taught in each fitness class, and each class offers a wide variety of training protocols.
FACILITIES
The 3,300-square-foot weight room was renovated in 2009 and accommodates all fitness and strength training classes. The weight room has been outfitted with a complete line of Hammer Strength, Life Fitness and Intek equipment. The foundation of the Strength and Conditioning department is based on Olympic and multi-joint lifting, and the equipment and layout of the weight room support this approach.
All Olympic lifts are performed on five Olympic platforms completely outfitted with Intek bars and bumper plates. The five double power racks handle all squat and bench work. The conditioning area consists of two Life Fitness treadmills and ellipticals, two Airdyne bikes, and two Concept 2 rowers. The open floor plan also allows for dynamic warm-up, stretching and plyometric training.
