FROM STUDENTS TO COLLEAGUES:

JOSH LAMMERT '12

Josh Lammert ‘12 began his journey at The Walker School in the 3rd grade. During his time as a student, he was actively involved in both athletics and the arts, playing on the football and baseball teams while also performing in the Concert Band, Jazz Band, and the Pit Orchestra for school musicals.

After graduating from Walker, Josh attended Kennesaw State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in History with a minor in German Studies. He later continued his studies at KSU, earning a Master of Arts in American Studies. Walker is also a family tradition for the Lammerts—his brother, Luke, graduated from Walker in 2014.

Josh returned to Walker in 2019 as a Middle School Social Studies teacher and coach. Reflecting on his first time walking back onto campus as an employee rather than a student, Josh shared, “It was a weird feeling. You feel like you are peeking behind the curtain. You also realize that all the people you once saw as only teachers are great people and friends. It has been a cool experience getting to know them in a different light.”

What are some of your favorite memories from your time as a student here?
My favorite memories at Walker were making friends that have lasted a lifetime. Walker gave me an opportunity to be involved in many different activities.

Were there any teachers or mentors who had a lasting impact on you?
John Crowers, Ira Dawson

How has the school changed since you were a student? How has it stayed the same?
The school certainly looks different, but the essence of what makes Walker great, the people, is still here.

What’s one thing you wish today’s students knew about the school’s past?
I wish students had a better understanding of the school's past employees who have made the school what it is today.

What do you enjoy most about teaching or working at the school now?
I enjoy the kids most. Walker's students are incredible. I love coming to work every day and getting to pour into them, just like so many did for me in my time here.

Are there any traditions or events that are especially meaningful to you?Homecoming, the Senior Walk (Now Senior Parade)

How do you see your role in shaping the school’s future?
My role is to always leave the school better than I found it. To work every day to create an environment where kids want to be at school and where learning is fun.

What makes this school community unique, in your opinion?
The people. The faculty and staff truly know our kids and want what is best for them.
