Walker’s Tulowitzky Named Region Athletic Director of the Year

In just his second year leading athletics at The Walker School, Athletic Director Andrew
Tulowitzky has been named Region 5-A D1 Athletic Director of the Year, an honor voted on by fellow athletic directors across Walker’s region.

The recognition marks the third time Tulowitzky has earned Athletic Director of the Year honors during his career, but he is quick to share the credit with the broader Walker community.

“The award reflects the growth and success of the entire athletic department,” Tulowitzky said. “Strong athletic programs require alignment between administration, coaches, athletes, families and the broader community, and this recognition acknowledges those collective efforts.”

Since arriving at Walker, Tulowitzky has focused on building a program rooted in meaningful relationships, competitive excellence and character development. Under his leadership, Walker athletics has continued to grow through intentional improvements across programs, coaching and facilities, while remaining deeply connected to the school’s mission and values.

Carl Carlson, Walker’s Head of School, said Tulowitzky has made a positive impact on
the Athletics program since he arrived on campus: “He has provided vision and support
that creates an environment where coaches and athletes can thrive. Tulo is incredibly
deserving of this award.”

Colleagues across the region recognized not only Walker’s athletic success but also
Tulowitzky’s collaborative leadership style. Serving as Region Secretary, he has worked closely with athletic directors from other schools, becoming known as a trusted resource and problem solver.

“I pride myself on being a creative problem solver and someone who stays calm and
collaborative in challenging situations,” he said. “I try to approach every challenge with a team-first mindset.”

Tulowitzky said he believes the strength of Walker athletics comes from doing things “the right way,” emphasizing integrity, sportsmanship and a commitment to maximizing the potential of every student-athlete.

“I think Walker strikes the perfect balance of providing competitiveness and character
development, while also offering opportunities to lead and build meaningful relationships with teammates and coaches,” Tulowitzky said.

That philosophy closely aligns with Walker’s mission to inspire transformative learning through meaningful relationships, academic excellence and unique opportunities.

“Athletics puts our student-athletes in situations where they have to learn to problem solve, communicate and grow through success and adversity,” Tulowitzky said. “Those situations become a powerful extension of the classroom.”

One of the moments Tulowitzky says best captured the spirit of Walker athletics came during the boys basketball team’s Elite Eight run this year, when students, families and faculty packed the stands at North Cobb Christian School to cheer on the Wolverines.

“Our community showed up in incredible numbers and brought unmatched energy,” he said. “Watching our students celebrate alongside the players afterward was a special and unforgettable moment that truly reflected the pride, connection and spirit of Walker athletics.”

Beyond wins and championships, Tulowitzky said he defines success by the long-term impact athletics has on students.

“I define success for a student-athlete as continually growing and striving to become the best version of themselves academically, athletically and personally,” he said.

As Walker continues to build momentum across its athletic programs, Tulowitzky remains focused on the future.

“The opportunities for Walker athletics are vast,” he said. “If we continue to build the right way, with purpose and creativity, we will be able to look back over time and take real pride in what we have accomplished.”
