FROM STUDENTS TO COLLEAGUES:
KATLIN SEGER '15
|
Katlin Seger ’15 began her Walker journey in pre-kindergarten, and many of her favorite memories center around the friendships and experiences she built through athletics. A member of both the softball and basketball teams, Katlin cherished the teammates who became lifelong friends and the unforgettable moments they shared together. Beyond athletics, she was also a Peer Leader and served as Editor of The Pegasus, Walker’s Upper School literary publication. Two memories stand out most from her time as a student. One memory is walking into Mrs. Branham’s classroom every day during the spring semester of her junior year with “Africa” by Toto playing in the background. The other is convincing the majority of the softball team to dress up as characters from The Sandlot for Homecoming her senior year. After graduating from Walker, Katlin earned a degree in Sports Administration from Berry College. She returned to Walker in the fall of 2021 as a Community Coach for softball and joined the school full-time in the Development Office in early 2022. Today, Katlin continues to make an impact on the Walker community as Director of Alumni Communications and Digital Strategy. She also serves as Program Head and Head Coach for Varsity Softball and as an Assistant Coach for Varsity Basketball, continuing the tradition of mentorship, connection, and Wolverine pride that shaped her own Walker journey. When she’s not on campus, Katlin can often be found cheering on the Atlanta Braves at Truist Park or waking up early on weekends to watch Formula One. She is especially excited for her upcoming trip to England this summer to attend a race! Were there any teachers or mentors who had a lasting impact on you? Erika Treu, John Crowers, Joe Konieczny, and Patty Mozley What was it like walking back onto campus for the first time as an employee instead of a student? It was weird at first. It is like peeking behind the curtain. But at the same time, it felt like coming home. How has the school changed since you were a student? How has it stayed the same? A lot has changed, like campus additions and a wider range of opportunities inside and outside the classroom, but at its core, Walker is the same. Relationships have always been a big part of Walker, and that is still true today. What’s one thing you wish today’s students knew about the school’s past? The dress code used to be WAY more strict! What do you enjoy most about teaching or working at the school now? It feels a bit strange writing these answers, since I know where they will end up, but I really enjoy working with Newton McCurdy and engaging with our 3000+ alumni. Putting on events and seeing everyone reconnect after being away from the school for so long is a lot of fun! (This is a shameless plug to come to an alumni event!) Are there any traditions or events that are especially meaningful to you? Walkouts at Homecoming have always been one of my favorite traditions. Since coming to work here, I have grown to love other events, like Grandparents & Special Friends Day and the Senior Parade (formerly Senior Walk), even more! How do you see your role in shaping the school’s future? I hope that I can make all alumni feel like Walker will always be home to them. No matter how long you have been away from graduating, whether it has been 40 years or 1 month, Walker and the Alumni Association will always welcome you back with open arms. What makes this school community unique, in your opinion? It's always been the people. The teachers, staff, students, and parents. It's great to see how everyone works together to create the best outcome for the students. |
