The curriculum in the Upper School stresses academic challenge, intellectual development, creative problem solving, and critical thinking. A variety of extracurricular activities, athletic offerings, and clubs combine to provide opportunities for exploration and participation beyond the high school classroom. Grade level advisory groups create an ongoing social and academic support system for all four years of Upper School.
In May 2017, 247 students took 573 AP exams in 26 subject areas. For the past five years, Walker has also averaged over 6% of the class being recognized by the National Merit Scholarship program.
The Upper School has four nine-week marking periods with final exams at the end of each semester. Classes follow a seven day rotation where an individual class meets six out of the seven days at a different time each day. This innovative schedule, a dedicated faculty, and a wide range of offerings in the arts and sciences allows students to discover the "lifelong love of learning" that is vital to an informed and responsible society.
