  • Primary School

Child development at the preschool age is happening so rapidly that everyday marks a new milestone. The Primary School counselor works closely with the students, teachers and parents to form a team to support children through this development. The counselor visits each classroom during monthly guidance lessons that address issues like friendship and self-esteem. Individual supportive counseling is available to aid students and assist parents and teachers. The counselor uses small social skills groups to help students build their interpersonal relationships with peers.

The early years are a vital time in a child's growth. Walker offers counseling services to help our students learn and grow successfully to provide a strong foundation for the future.
  • Lower School

Kristin Moffett is the Lower School counselor. she is an experienced school counselor and worked in a Cobb County school for 12 years. She graduated from the State University of West Georgia with her Master's Degree in School Counseling and then continued to pursue her Specialist's Degree in School Counseling from Georgia State University.

The Lower School counseling program is designed to reach all students. Each student will have access to the counseling program through individual counseling, small group participation, and Mrs. Moffett will be instructing each classroom monthly through guidance lessons. The lessons and small group topics are determined based on classroom need; therefore, students are receiving instruction and practicing skills that are relevant to their growth.

    Mission Statement
    :

The Lower School counseling program mission is to:
    • provide specialized counsel, instruction, and interventions based on identified student needs,
    • maximize student potential and achievement by providing a comprehensive program addressing academic, career, and personal/social domains of the American School Counseling Association,
    • promote healthy character and life skill development to prepare students to be highly successful community members, and
    • advocate for student success by facilitating positive relationships between educators, families, and the community.

These early years are formative years for Lower School students. The Lower School counseling program is designed to assist students and promote growth in academic, personal/social, and early career awareness standards.
  • Middle and Upper School

A team of counselors complements our advisory system to provide every student with one adult on campus to go to for advice, a positive word, or for insight on how best to handle a situation. Students are assigned a faculty advisor upon entering the Upper School and stay with that advisor and advisory group through graduation. To plan course requests for the following year, each student will meet in the spring with a member of the administrative team to discuss departmental requirements and teacher recommendations. Freshmen meet with the Dean of Students, sophomores meet with the Academic Dean, and juniors meet with the Principal.
