Primary School News and Notes

Class pictures will be taken in the morning on Tuesday, March 19th. Please be sure to arrive at school on time to ensure that your child is present for the photograph. Students do not need to wear their Walker uniform for this picture and may dress how they choose.

 

The Upper and Middle School Diversity Alliance is excited to bring back Walker's Multicultural Day including the Parade of Nations and Taste of Nations. This event will take place on Friday, April 12, and all Walker community members are invited to join. Please fill out the SURVEY HERE to participate. Registration for Spring Conferences on Thursday, March 21st, and Friday, March 22nd, is live.  Below are the links for each class. It is essential that you only sign up for one time slot. When you click the link, please select the preferred conference date to see available appointment times. Please ensure your calendar is set to EST (Eastern Standard Time). Contact your child's teacher directly if you need to make any changes.  Please remember that conferences will be held in person and are intended for parents only.

As a reminder, students will be dismissed from school at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 21st, and there is no school or EDP Camp for students on Friday, March 22nd. If your child plans to attend EDP on March 21st, use this link to register, as spaces are limited. 

Kindergarten parents are invited to the Lower School on April 26th. First, you are invited to attend a 1st Grade assembly, “Are you Smarter than a 1st Grader.” This will begin at 8:05 a.m. in Gatti Hall, in the Lower School. This will be followed by a Coffee Morning with Lower School leadership and the 1st Grade team. 

On April 8th, there will be a solar eclipse around dismissal time. Primary school students will be kept inside during main eclipse hours. We will not be viewing the eclipse as a Primary School community. We know this is an exciting time, and if you would like to pick your child up early or you are planning to miss school to view the eclipse with your family, it will be an excused absence. Here is one possible source, if you want to purchase special eclipse glasses to view the eclipse with your family.

Throughout March we will discuss our passions and many different kinds of careers: firefighters, police officers, astronauts, teachers, doctors, coaches, counselors, attorneys, and more. We will focus on what it takes to reach these careers and some strong women who worked hard to break through barriers and achieve these goals.
