After a national search for a new Head of Primary School, Walker has hired Jessica Waugh, who is currently the Primary Years Programme Curriculum Coordinator at Riverstone International School in Boise, Idaho.
Jessica is an experienced educator who is a great fit with the culture at Walker. She is an outstanding educator who has a deep understanding of early learning and brings a wonderful perspective that will build upon the strong foundation built by Dr. Emily Tyson and her team in the Primary School. Jessica cares deeply about her students, families and colleagues, and she is a great choice to lead the next chapter of the Primary School.
Prior to Riverstone, she was the Head of Primary and Vice Principal at St. Andrew’s International School in The Bahamas. Jessica has taught and supported students and teachers across the primary and elementary grades throughout her educational career.
“I am excited to join The Walker Primary School and the larger Walker community! From my very first interview, I could see there is a strong sense of belonging and teamwork among both faculty members and students, and student learning and well-being are at the heart of decision-making,” Jessica said. “I prioritize building relationships, knowing and supporting each child as an individual, fostering curiosity and inspiring a lifelong love of learning, which I feel is a great fit with Walker’s mission and core values.”
Jessica has a Master’s in Reading Education from Vanderbilt University and a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from Elon University. She enjoys continuing to learn and grow as an educator. She earned a Certificate in School Leadership and Management through Harvard University and has served as a school accreditation team member. In her spare time, Jessica enjoys traveling, reading and staying active, and she is looking forward to exploring the Atlanta area.
