Walker Alumni

Chandler Smith ('14) Selected for Prestigious Cultural Exchange

Walker alumnus Chandler Smith ('14) was recently selected for a prestigious year-long fellowship in Germany.

The Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange for Young Professionals (CBYX) is a fellowship funded by the German Bundestag and U.S. Department of State, that annually provides 75 American and 75 German young professionals the opportunity to spend one year in each other’s countries, studying, interning, and living with hosts on a cultural immersion program.
Smith double majored in business administration in German studies at Furman University, from where he graduated in May 2018.

"My Walker education was integral in creating a firm foundation for future success, particularly by honing critical thinking and writing skills. From my first day at Furman University, I knew I was prepared for both the rigorous curriculum and for balancing academics with extracurricular activities and a social life," said Smith. "My interest in German started in 8th grade with Mr. Selzer and continued through high school with the help of Walker's outstanding German program."
