Emergency Action Plan

Emergency situations may arise at any time during athletic events.  Expedient action must be taken in order to provide the best possible care to the athletes of emergency and /or life threatening conditions.  The Walker Emergency Plan for Athletics was developed to ensure that the sports medicine team is prepared to provide the best possible care when these types of situations arise.

  • Batting Cages

    Roles of Emergency Team
    Immediate Care of Athlete
    The Certified Athletic Trainer is responsible for immediate care of the ill or injured athlete.  In the event the Certified Athletic Trainer is not present at the time of injury, or can not be reached; a Supervising Coach should provide basic first aid as outlined the Walker Emergency Response Procedures for Athletic Events (Appendix 2).

    Emergency Communication:  Cellular phone carried by Certified Athletic Trainer and supervising coach.
     
    Activation of Emergency Medical System
    Emergency Team Member #1:  Call 911. Give access instructions listed below.

    Emergency Vehicle Access:  Ambulance should enter gates on Damar Road located at the scoreboard end of the main field just North of the Batting cages.


    Emergency Equipment Retrieval
    Emergency Team Member #2:  Get the following Emergency Equipment:  AED andFirst Aid Kit provided to coaches by Certified Athletic Trainer to be present at all practices and competitions.
    **Location of nearest AED is in Coles Athletic Center on the wall outside of the weight room.

    Direct EMS to the Scene
    Emergency Team Member #3:  Unlock the gates (GM Key) located next to the batting cages, adjacent to Damar Road and remain to show EMS to injured athlete.

    Immediate Care of Athlete
    The Certified Athletic Trainer is responsible for immediate care of the ill or injured athlete.  In the event the Certified Athletic Trainer is not present at the time of injury, or can not be reached; a Supervising Coach should provide basic first aid as outlined the Walker Emergency Response Procedures for Athletic Events (Appendix 2).

    Emergency Team Member #1:  Call 911. Give access instructions listed below.

    Emergency Vehicle Access:  Ambulance should access the upper level of Coles Gymnasium via the main parking lot on Cobb Parkway.
     
    Emergency Equipment Retrieval
    Emergency Team Member #2:  Get the following Emergency Equipment:  AED andFirst Aid Kit provided to coaches by Certified Athletic Trainer to be present at all practices and competitions.
    **Location of nearest AED is in Coles Athletic Center on the wall outside of the weight room.


    Direct EMS to the Scene
    Emergency Team Member #3:  Stand in the parking lot and remain to direct EMS to the injured athlete in Coles Gymnasium.

    Emergency Team Member #3:  Exit the lower level back doors and unlock the large gate (GM Key required) next to the Lower School Playground.   Remain at gate to direct EMS to the injured athlete in Coles Athletic Center
  • Lower Level Tennis Courts

    Emergency Team Member #2:  Get the following Emergency Equipment:  AED andFirst Aid Kit provided to coaches by Certified Athletic Trainer to be present at all practices and competitions.
    ** Location of AED is in the Dining Hall adjacent to the Muthiah Activity Center.

    Direct EMS to the Scene
    Emergency Team Member #3:  Remain at the entrance of the Faculty Parking Lot and show EMS to injured athlete.
  • Lower Practice Field (behind Coles)

    The Certified Athletic Trainer is responsible for immediate care of the ill or injured athlete.  In the event the Certified Athletic Trainer is not on campus, or can not be reached, a Supervising Coach may provide basic first aid as outlined the Walker Emergency Response Procedures for Athletic Events.

    Emergency Vehicle Access:  Ambulance should enter via gates on Damar Rd. located at the scoreboard end of the main field near batting cages.

    Emergency Team Member #2:  Get the following Emergency Equipment:  AED, First Aid Kit provided to coaches by Certified Athletic Trainer to be present at all practices and competitions.

    Emergency Team Member #3: Wait  for EMS at parking lot entrance off of Allgood Rd and direct them to the field access site. Remain to show EMS to injured athlete.
