8th-graders win Georgia poetry contest

Georgia River of Words is a youth environmental poetry and art contest. State winners are selected from four categories from Kindergarten to 12th grade. State finalists advance to the international River of Words contest.

2021 Poetry National Finalists:
Of the three 2021 National Poetry Finalists from Georgia in the Middle School category, two are Walker eighth-graders: Mary Lin Beaver, for her poem “Man on the Moon,” and Blake Anderson for his poem “Adapt Like Water.” 

2021 Poetry State Winners: 
Of the 10 state winners in the Middle School category, two are Walker eighth-graders: Ava Wilson, for her poem “Stars of the Night,” and Jonah Douglas, for his poem “Wind”

Ava, Blake, Mary Lin, and Jonah will be recognized at The Georgia River of Words Ceremony on Sunday, May 2, at the Georgia Center for the Book at the DeKalb County Library in Decatur.
