Ryan Wilson ('08): Redefining Community

Upon graduation from The Walker School in 2008, Ryan Wilson matriculated to Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. where he immersed himself in several leadership opportunities. While obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in government and sociology, Ryan also participated in Georgetown’s Diversity & Inclusiveness Initiative, earned the Healy Fellowship, and, among other honors, served as a sociology department Student Representative. Following the completion of his undergraduate program, Ryan went on to obtain his Doctorate of Law from Georgetown’s University Law Center.

In addition to his many academic accomplishments, Ryan is an entrepreneur at heart. In 2016, he and a founding partner opened The Gathering Spot, described in Forbes magazine as an “innovative place that provides connection and community for members through work areas, event spaces, and restaurants.” With over 3,000 members, revenue in excess of $7 million, and a recent $5 million dollar investment, the club is now looking toward expansion in D.C. and Los Angeles. Ryan has been recognized by the Atlanta Business Chronicle as the Small Business Person of the Year in 2017, in The Root’s 2018 list of 100 Most Influential African Americans, the Ebony Power 100 in 2018, Atlanta Magazine 500 Most Powerful Leaders in 2019 and 2020 and has been featured in publications such as Forbes, Black Enterprise,Inc., Bloomberg Businessweek, Fast Company, and Huffington Post. He has been credited with redefining networking and has “cultivated a hub for local executives, creatives and tastemakers like Stacey Abrams, Will Packer, Ludacris and T.I.” according to a recent article in The Atlanta Journal & Constitution.

Says Ryan of his time at Walker, “Walker gave me the academic background [needed] to excel while attending Georgetown as an undergrad and law student. Equally important, the school allowed me to explore a wide range of my interests that continue to impact my life. Only Walker could have provided such a unique experience, and I'm very grateful for the way those experiences continue to impact my life professionally and personally.”
