Barrett Kulick ('16) was "well prepared for Tech" and beyond!

“Exposing students to the real world, while still protecting them,” says Barrett Kulik, Class of 2016, is one of the many things that makes a Walker education unique. That and “the faculty are in a class of their own.”

Barrett joined the Walker student body at the beginning of his sixth grade year. In time, and like most Walker Wolverines, he came to embrace the expanse of opportunities available in an intimately-scaled environment. Barrett was involved in the Student Activities Union, a leader in the Fellowship of Christian Students, played on the boys basketball team and the golf team, became a peer leader and served as a crew member for two drama productions.

Balancing the many opportunities to explore his interests while maintaining his academic performance was the “biggest takeaway,” when Barrett transitioned to life on the Georgia Tech campus. “Because most people (at Walker) are involved in at least one extra-curricular, it forces (students) to have to plan ahead and budget their time. At Tech, I knew I wanted to be very involved on campus outside the classroom and the time management skills I developed at Walker served as a great foundation for my time in college.”

Going into his Senior year at Tech, Barrett says he is most proud of the leadership positions he has been able to take on while pursuing his degree. Among those opportunities, Barrett has been able to teach an introductory finance and investment court to over 250 students, establish a funded trip to NYC for finance students to help in their internship/career search, has served as President of his fraternity and was recently selected to be a student speaker for TEDxGeorgia Tech. Says Barrett, “Walker teaches you to have a perspective greater than just yourself and that cannot be emphasized enough as you go off to college and beyond. Walker prepared me very well for Georgia Tech!”

This summer, Barrett looks forward to his final internship with SVB Leerink which is a healthcare bank where he’ll be working in their Biotechnology division. He hopes that, with a Bachelor of Business Administration (concentration in finance and accounting) that he will relocate to the Boston or New York area and work full time for Leerink.

Whatever Barrett chooses to do, we know he will do it well and with Walker pride.
