Walker begins new phased return

Message from Head of School Jack Hall sent Sept. 17, 2020:

Good afternoon, Walker community. I am pleased to report that given the continued downward trajectory of COVID-19 cases in Cobb County, the success of our mitigation efforts on campus and the way in which our students, families, faculty and staff have embraced our Health & Safety protocols, we will begin a phased re-entry in which all students will be on campus five days a week.

This phase will begin this Monday, Sept. 21, with the Primary School. We are calling this phase Modified Orange because we are keeping all of the same SAFETY PROTOCOLS in place but basing the number of students in each classroom on occupancy that still allows for physical distancing. Once we complete our phased re-entry, students in all divisions who choose in-person learning will be on campus five days a week.

The phased re-entry will occur as follows:
Monday, Sept. 21: Primary School (combining dens)
Tuesday, Sept. 29: Lower School (combining dens), Seniors & 8th Grade
Monday, Oct. 5: 6th & 9th
Monday, Oct. 12: Grades 7, 10 & 11

The key to keeping COVID at bay on our campus is for everyone to stay home if they are not feeling well. Contact tracing also plays an important part in our efforts to keep our community safe. We are grateful to our COVID Support Team, all of whom have undergone training from Johns Hopkins University, for their diligent and timely work thus far.

We will continue our process of notifying students who are deemed to be “close contacts” with someone who has tested positive or been diagnosed with COVID-19 as quickly as possible. Those who are deemed to have had close contact must quarantine for 14 days. Those who are deemed “low-exposure contacts” also are notified and asked to look out for possible symptoms but are not required to quarantine.

Our students, faculty and staff have been following the Three Ws (wear your mask, watch your distance and wash your hands well and regularly), and as we move into this new phase, it will be critical that we all continue to do so in order to keep each other safe. Anyone who is not feeling well should stay home. Please make sure you or your student completes the SchoolPass app before arriving on campus each morning.

WalkerConnect has been working well and will continue to be an option for those students who either choose not to be on campus or need to attend remotely for a period of time.

We have updated the FAQS ON THE RETURN TO SCHOOL page on our website with more information about this phase and will continue to do so. Please share your comments and questions via our QUESTIONS/FEEDBACK FORM.

Thank you for your support.
