The youngest of three, Kyle Keegan was a part of the Walker community even before he was enrolled! “Being Shannon (Class of 2015) and Briana (Class of 2017)’s little brother, I grew up at Walker. I had friends here from years of just hanging out, waiting for my sisters.”
Jumping into the Middle School as an official ‘new student,’ Kyle appreciated being able to rotate through the arts - programs in which both his older sisters excelled - but was drawn different opportunities. “I had played a lot of recreational ball and I knew I wanted to be part of the sports programs. Our coaches then didn’t see me as just a Middle Schooler - or a little brother. Right away they saw me as part of the team. It was an immediate connection for me.”
In many ways, Kyle believes the intimate setting of our school works to our advantage. “There’s so much support. No barriers. No egos. You can see it in our teachers. They do so much and so many different things. Just because you’re a coach, doesn’t mean that’s all you can do.”
Aside from sports, Kyle soon found he had other passions. Exploring those have led him to discover his own interest in journalism, an interest he is further developing as part of the Yearbook staff. Serving as a team leader in his Junior year at Walker really helped him to develop close relationships off the field and hone his writing skills. “What makes Walker special is the stories,” he shares. “The relationships that happen here, that you build. Everyone here is welcoming and open. In that, and in working on our Yearbook, I have realized how many different stories are out there.’”
Wherever he goes, Kyle hopes that his leadership and writing skills will take him far - perhaps into the world of documentary film making. And, no matter where he ends up we know that he (and his sisters) will always be part of our story.
