Campaign FAQs

Q

What is the difference between the Annual Fund and The Wonder of We Capital Campaign?

A

An Annual Fund gift benefits the current-year programs and, as the name suggests, is given on a yearly basis. Annual gifts make up the difference between what tuition covers and the actual cost of running the school. A capital gift is often and multi-year major gift to meet building and endowment needs that the school cannot pay through tuition.

Q

Should I give to the Annual Fund or to The Wonder of We capital campaign?

A

Both! The school asks for an annual fund gift and capital campaign gift at the same time for the same reason that you continue paying your mortgage while you put an addition on your home. The school must continue to meet its operating costs even as it is making major changes to the campus.

Be part of Walker's future.  Be part of The Wonder of We.

On January 22, 2017, The Walker School publically launched The Wonder of We capital campaign, a $10 million effort that will change the face of the school's campus and provide new state-of-the-art academic, arts and athletic facilities for the benefit of current and future students.

The project was born out of the strategic goals approved by the Board of Trustees in 2014 and outlined in the school's Long Range Plan.  The Wonder of We campaign will help complete the first phase of development of the school's overall campus master plan which consists of:

  •       The construction of a 30,000 square foot Science & Technology building which will house dedicated Middle School Science labs as well as Upper School Chemistry, Physics, Robotics and Media Tech suites and classrooms.
  • The repurposing and renovation of the previous science labs/classrooms to be used for 2D and 3D arts spaces as well as band, orchestra, dance and the performing arts.
  • The purchase of 18 acres of contiguous property located at 815 Allgood Road which will be used to expand and consolidate our athletic fields and facilities. This will allow for an additional practice field as well as a dedicated Middle School Baseball/Softball field.  It will also pave the way for future campus development of this site for athletic purposes.
Walker has talented faculty and staff, dedicated families and creative and engaged students.  We cannot overlook the importance of the physical environment in Walker's ability to create the best possible learning experience for students.

Led by co-chairs Dawn & Alex Koutouzis and Kristin & Glenn Shaw, The Wonder of We campaign has secured more than $9 million over the last 24 months from individual donors and Atlanta-based foundations.  We are proud to announce that $290,000 of this total amount received was given by Walker faculty and staff.

In addition, two Atlanta-area foundations have challenged us to reach our $10 million goal by June 30, 2017.  We must reach our goal by this date to claim the $1.75 million in grants.

Walker families received a full packet in early March with information on the project, campaign and most importantly, how YOU can be a part of The Wonder of We through a philanthropic gift or pledge. We need ALL Walker families to give to make this plan a reality. Click here to make a pledge today!

50 Month Challenge

Q

What is the 50 Month Challenge?

A

Thanks to the generosity of two Atlanta-area foundations, The Walker School has been awarded a total of $1.75 million in challenge grants. However, in order to claim these grants we must reach our $10 million campaign goal by June 30, 2017. We are appealing to the entire Walker community to help us reach this goal by asking families to consider giving over time to help them increase their commitment to the campaign.

Q

How does the 50 month challenge work?

A

Did you know that you can give generously over time?
Monthly giving allows you to maximize your giving through smaller, more frequent payments.

*A gift of $10,000 over 50 months is only $200 per month

*A gift of $5,000 over 50 months is $100 per month

*A gift of $2,500 over 50 months is only $50 per month.

It will take the collective WE to reach our goal and receive these grants. We hope families will consider taking part in the 50 month challenge or make an alternate pledge to the campaign today!

Q

What if I would rather not give over 50 months?

A

You don't have to! Your pledge arrangement is completely customizable. You can make a one-time gift, or give monthly, quarterly or annually. All of these options are available on the Capital Campaign giving section of this webpage.
