The Walker School Association (WSA) is comprised of all parents of students at The Walker School. The WSA offers many parent volunteer opportunities throughout the school year to assist the faculty, staff and students of The Walker School. The WSA is a conduit that ensures parents have an active role in the experiences of the students at Walker. The WSA funds the school’s “Wish List” which provides classroom extras and resources to benefit our teachers and students educational experience. The WSA will generate support for the school this year through the fall Magazine Sale and the Annual Auction which takes place in the spring. In addition the WSA hosts a number of service projects and activities throughout the school year including parents' nights, the Lower School bowling party, the Preschool ice cream social, the fall festival, secret shop and many staff appreciation events. We encourage all parents to get involved in one or more of these activities and become active in the life of The Walker School.
Parents’ Night
Parents’ Night is an annual event that allows parents the opportunity to learn more about Walker clubs and organizations. Most importantly, it gives you the chance to meet your child(ren’s) teachers and see what a day in their life is like here at Walker. All parents are strongly encouraged to attend this event which lasts between an hour and an hour and a half.
School Parties and Events
The Annual Preschool Ice Cream Social is held after the beginning of the school year as are other special events.
The WSA’s Annual Magazine Sale will be held in early September. We encourage each family to participate in this activity because the majority of the teacher’s wish lists are funded through the magazine sale and the auction. The teacher’s wish lists contain items that bring unique opportunities and activities to the classroom that are outside of the normal budget.
The Fall Festival, a time to dress up and enjoy the changing season, will be scheduled for mid-October. Plan to come and play games outside of the Muthiah Activity Center.
The much anticipated Secret Shop is held in December each year. This is a time when holiday helpers assist students in finding the perfect item for family members. Our holiday helpers are busy during the summer so our little shoppers will be happy with the gifts they purchase.
Ongoing Activities
During the year we have many enjoyable Staff Appreciation events. These are breaks given to the teachers and staff to thank them for all of the hard work they encounter daily with our children. Please look for this opportunity to volunteer or contribute meals for these events.
