Welcome New Faculty and Staff!

Preschool

The Preschool is thrilled to welcome Emily Tyson as our new Kindergarten lead teacher. Emily comes to us with eleven years of elementary teaching experience in Cobb County. She received her bachelor’s degree from Florida State University in biology and then pursued her master’s degree in Elementary Education from Queen University of Charlotte. She continued at The State University of West Georgia and gained her specialist’s degree in Early Childhood Education, and she is currently working on her doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction. Emily will work alongside assistant teacher, Charlene Papadopoulos. She has two children who attend Walker, Logan in second grade and Leighton in PK.

Casey Fiman will join the Preschool and the Lower School as Learning Support Specialist for both divisions. Casey received a B. S. in Family Studies and Human Development from University of Arizona, before continuing on to receive a M.A. in Clinical Psychology from Pepperdine University, and an Ed.M in School Psychology from Columbia University.

Lower School

In the Lower School, Mrs. Cybil Sather enthusiastically accepted the position of lead art teacher and will teach our students in first - fifth grade. She is thrilled to be transitioning from an assistant art teacher to the lead teacher; she will be working alongside our new Preschool and Lower School art assistant, Mrs. Shanda Mitchell, who is already a familiar face.

In our fifth grade, Mrs. Jacki Gass will serve as fifth grade assistant. With over 25 years of experience in early childhood education, Mrs. Gass will serve our fifth grade students, parents, and teachers well. She spent time last year as a staff member in Lower School EDP and also as a substitute teacher.

Casey Fiman will join the Preschool and the Lower School as Learning Support Specialist for both divisions. Casey received a B. S. in Family Studies and Human Development from University of Arizona, before continuing on to receive a M.A. in Clinical Psychology from Pepperdine University, and an Ed.M in School Psychology from Columbia University.

Middle School

David Gale joins the Middle School as the new Assistant Principal. David comes to us from Holy Innocents after working for eleven years as an English teacher. David will take over the role from Mr. Newton McCurdy, who stood in as the MS Interim Dean of Students for the year to assist the MS administration team. David has a B.A. in English, and a Masters in Educational Leadership.

Our new MS Counselor is Ms. Ann Tolley Jones, who comes to us from Virginia where she was a school counselor and musical theatre director. Ann Tolley holds a B.A. from University of Virginia and a Masters in School Counseling from James Madison University.

Upper School

Jennifer Brimer will become the Upper School Learning Specialist and join her third grade son, Max, on the Walker campus. She has a Bachelor of Science in International Affairs from Kennesaw State University and a Master’s in Education in Interrelated Special Education from North Georgia College and State University. She spent seven years at North Cobb High School working with students with learning differences and coaching their Model UN team. Jennifer is an avid traveler (over 20 countries visited and two different exchanges as a student) and is an active volunteer and Sunday School teacher at her church.   

Ed Moye will join the World Language Department and teach French across two divisions and several course levels from French IA through AP French. His career started in graphic design before teaching French at both the high school and college level. He has a Master’s of Arts and Bachelors of Arts in French from Georgia State University, an Associate of Arts from the Art Institute of Atlanta, and Certificat d’estudes from Centre International d’Estudes Francaises. Ed served as a translator during the Atlanta Olympic Games and has published a science fiction, young-adult trilogy.

David Harding is coming to the Upper School as a member of the Science Department where he will teach biology and chemistry. He graduated from Xavier University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology and a Master’s degree in Kinesiology from the University of Georgia. David has coached football at the college level as well as more recently at Riverwood ICS in Atlanta. David is an avid traveler and hiker as well as an amateur entomologist (collecting bugs!).

Gina Valenza joins the Counseling Department after one year in private practice and four years in the Fairfax County, VA, public school system. She earned her BA in Psychology from West Virginia University and her Master’s in school counseling from California University of Pennsylvania. She enjoys reading mystery novels and recently ran her first half-marathon.

Administration

Jen Brock joins Walker’s Communications Office as the Director of Communications and Marketing. Jen comes to Walker from Mercer University where she was the Director of Marketing and Communications for the College of Pharmacy. She holds a bachelor’s degree in communication from Randolph-Macon Woman’s College and a master’s degree in communication from Georgia State University.
