What to expect when your child comes to the Preschool...
by Wendi, Mom of Brinkley, Pre-K student
hen my daughter Brinkley was accepted into the Preschool at Walker, we were so excited. My husband and I knew that she would be receiving a great education and she was excited about making new friends.
From the beginning, steps were taken to ensure that Brinkley would make friends and feel comfortable at her new school. The library was open once a week during the summer to check out books and make projects. The playground was also open during this time so existing Walker families could get to know the incoming new students and their families. Brinkley met many new friends, became familiar with her new school, and couldn't wait to go back to the library and playground each week. We were also sent a list of all the Pre-K students so that we could set up play dates during the summer. This was a really great chance to meet some other children.
The first day...
When the first day of school arrived, Brinkley was ready to go! I had wondered and worried about the first day of school for her. Would she feel comfortable, like her teachers, make friends easily, cry when I left her? But thanks to the many opportunities provided by Walker over the summer, she was more excited than I could have imagined! Every day she wakes up eager and ready for the school day, even on the weekends.
Family involvement
I know that Brinkley loves the friends that she has made, her teachers, and her school. But, just when I thought the focus would only be on my daughter, I came to the realization that Walker is a place for families as well. At the Walker Preschool, there are many opportunities to volunteer. I have met many people, gotten involved, and I now feel part of the Walker family, too.
I am constantly surprised and impressed by what Brinkley is learning. Academically she has learned more than I ever expected her to in a pre-kindergarten program. She has learned everything from the life skill of tying her shoes all the way to becoming a confident beginning reader. The Walker School is a place where students and families always come first... WOW!
