Grandparents and Special Friends Day

Thursday, April 22, 2010 – Pre-K and Kindergarten

Friday, April 23, 2010 – 1st – 5th Grades

We are very excited about the upcoming 2010 Grandparents Day!  Planning is currently underway for this special event.  While formal invitations will be sent in the weeks ahead we wanted to give you, our Walker grandparents, a preview of what you can expect on this fun-filled day.

  • Refreshments and hors d’oeuvres upon arrival.
  • A musical performance (in both English and Spanish!) by our talented students.
  • A special photo opportunity and activity session with your grandchild(ren).
  • An instructional session in some of our special area classrooms which include our Computer and Science Labs, Library, Art and Music rooms, Spanish and P.E. classes.
  • Experience a day in the life of your students by meeting and talking with their homeroom teachers.

Registration information will follow in February with further information on the day’s event. We hope you will plan on joining us for this event!  Should you have any questions in the meantime, please email grandday@thewalkerschool.org

2010 Walker Auction

An Auction Under the Stars gold and purple

thewalkerschool.maestroweb.com

Announcing: Our fearless leader, Dapper Don Robertson, has agreed to captain his very own Squadron of Hot-Air Balloons, launching from the Farm on the day of the auction: April 24th, 2010. This will be "The Don Robertson Pre-Party Launch at 3 in the Afternoon" with plans to return in plenty of time for the Caribbean Cocktail Party at 5PM on that day. Don is searching for some Gallant Souls to sail with his Squadron off into the wild, blue yonder on that lovely spring afternoon!

Grab a fellow bombardier and join Don's Squadron for a fun flight from the Farm on the day of the Auction. It is the fun opportunity of a lifetime. We'll have you back to the Farm in plenty of time and we will also have an ice cold beverage waiting for you at "The Ol' Swimmin' Hole's Palapa Bar and Grill"----on the house --- And, of course, the Walker School appreciates your participation and your donation to the Wish List for the Kids. This is going to be great fun for all.

Inclement Weather Notification

The safety of our students is of the utmost importance.  As such the school administration may decide to delay or cancel school if road conditions become potentially hazardous due to inclement weather.  With a potential for winter weather later in the week, I wanted to make you aware of the methods by which we will notify our families if a decision is made to cancel school.

If winter weather does necessitate the closing of school, an announcement will be made by 6:00 am, if possible, and will be broadcast over radio stations WGST-AM (640), WSB-AM (750), WQXI-AM (790), and WZGC-FM (92.9), and over television stations WSB (Channel 2), WAGA (Channel 5), and WXIA (Channel 11).

This website along with our School Closing/ Inclement Weather line (678) 581-2674 will provide regular updates on the status of school reopening.  An email from the school to each family, along with a call from our automated phone system, will also be used to notify our families.

Experience tells us that some local areas have worse weather than others.  Please remember that you should be the ultimate judge on whether it is safe to transport your child to school.
