Energy Challenge
Recently, The Walker School faculty, staff, and students competed in an energy challenge. Twenty-one local independent schools were tasked with reducing their power consumption by at least 10% for the month of February. We were competing against our own average usage during the past three Februarys. Our strategy to achieve this goal was to turn off lights when they were not needed, turn off computer monitors, unplug anything not in use, and lower heating thermostats when not in school. Due to terrific support and participation, Walker placed ninth in the contest, with a whopping reduction of 16.84%! The overall school group reduction was 14.4%. Because we were so successful, we will continue with our conservation efforts with goals of maintaining and improving on our reduction of power consumption.

Walker Carpool Study Underway – You Can Help!
A Middle School student (who needs to remain anonymous due to the public aspect of the Walker website) is currently conducting a Science Fair experiment with real world benefits: Using Google Maps to plot where Walker families live, and then contacting them about potential carpool partners based on their geographic location.
This student has set up a very user-friendly website through which Walker families can respond. Simply follow this link and fill out the “Car Pool Information Form” on the website. The student will do the rest, and will contact you about potential carpool partners in your area. Several Walker families have already benefited from this service – perhaps you will as well!
