"Capital Chaos" and "Rope Burns"
Eighth Graders Write and Act their Own Four-Act Comedies! Between January 5 and March 4, 2005, two different eighth grade classes have put together plays of their own. They performed their shows March 17 and 18 with costumes, props, sets, lights, sound effects, and even some rap music.(Click the photos to enlarge.)
One play, CAPITAL CHAOS, bounces comically between famous sites in Washington, D.C., an eighth grade class's tour bus, and their hotel. On their last night in Washington, the characters' grand plans go awry, involving the police, the F.B.I., the air force, and the President's dog. The cast performs their play at 7:15 on the evening of March 17 at Walker School's auditorium, and again at 8:30 the following morning. Written and performed by Chandler Ambrester, Nicholas Arjona, Kapil Bhatia, Molly Borger, Jordan Brooks, Ryan Byrd, Natalie Gonzalez, Matthew Hale, Kara Hoffman, Margaret Rose Knox, Andrew Lintner, Brian McPherson, Chase Morgan, Alicia Rowedder, Kaley Tolar, Elisabeth Underwood, Sam Wetstone, and Christinie Yi.
The other play, ROPE BURN, follows a group of "problem" children as they endure forty days of "wilderness experience" in a secluded area of mountainous desert out West. While they develop life skills, they are unaware of a criminal plot that threatens their very survival. It's an adventure story with lots of comedy. The cast performs their play at 6:00 on the evening of March 17 at Walker School's auditorium, and again at 10:30 the following morning. Poster created by Brandi Ward.
