The Walker School commitment to our community

Tori Price, an 8th grader, accepting her award for 2nd place in the North Georgia Mountain Creative Writing Awards contest. she won for her poem "Just My Luck" and her prize was $50.00.

Four 8th grade girls donated their hair to http://www.locksoflove.org/, an organization that pays for hairpieces for young women that have long term hair loss due to illness. These young women had their hair cut at a participating hair salon so others could benefit by wearing a hairpiece during their treatment for cancer and other diseases.

Three Walker sixth graders swept the state of Georgia in the Library of Congress’ national contest “Letters on Literature.” The entries were letters to authors whose book changed the lives of the reader. Pictured at the award ceremony on April 17th at the Margaret Mitchell house are first place winner Ryan Brush, who wrote to J.K. Rowling for Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone, third place winner Tim Farley, who wrote to S.E. Hinton about The Outsiders, and second place contestant Justin Snider who wrote to Lemony Snicket for A Series of Unfortunate Events. Seven sixth graders were honored as runners-up: Rahul Mody, Sarah Kelley, Kim McMillan, Caroline Brashier, Sahil Ramakrishnan, Erik Houston and Rachel Fine. Congratulations, writers!
