Volunteer Opportunities
Parents are encouraged to volunteer to participate in activities and events that support and expand the programs offered for the students. The WSA (The Walker School Association) and the Athletic Booster Club are the primary parent organizations through which volunteers support the endeavors of the Lower School. These parent groups have sign up sheets available on Registration Day and at Parents’ Night to encourage volunteerism. The opportunities are numerous and include driving for field trips, helping with parties, helping with costumes and props for various productions, assisting in the Winship Library, helping the Art Department, working at the Fall Festival, assisting with the Secret Shop, helping with the class Auction project, and helping with the Auction. In addition, parents are encouraged to share their cultures, traditions, professional expertise, travel experiences, hobbies, and adventures with the students.
One of the goals of the Lower School administration, faculty, and room parents is to include as many interested parents as possible in the activities and events that affect their children. It is especially important to us to include parents who are new to the school in the volunteer opportunities, whether setting up for The Fall Festival, painting china for the Auction, helping students to stuff stockings for Cobb Christmas, driving some children to Kennesaw Mountain, or hosting the holiday party for the class. Walker is very fortunate that there are times when there are more volunteers than spaces to participate. What a wonderful problem to have!
The many ways in which the parents and grandparents volunteer in the Lower School enrich the children’s experiences. There are many opportunities of which we could not take advantage without these wonderful people who work with us as a team to support, encourage, and enrich the students. We are grateful to our wonderful volunteers.
