Fun and Games Camp
It’s time again to sign up for Fun and Games at Walker. The date has been set for the summer’s best camp! Mark your calendars now so that you will not miss what has become a tradition at Walker. Fun and Games Camp is scheduled to take place from 8:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. during the week of June 7 - 10. All rising K through 5th grade students are invited to attend. Students should be dropped off and picked up at Coles Gym.

Preschool Fine Motor Skills Camp
Give your rising Pre-K or Rising Kindergarten the boost they need to be prepared for next year. Most students do not get the fine motor skills practice they need during the busy summer months. Your child will get plenty of practice in this camp that will run on Monday and Wednesday’s throughout the summer from 10 – 11:30 am. During this hour and a half, your child will practice handwriting skills using proper pencil grip, do cutting activities, matching and pasting, self care skills, tracing, dot to dots, painting, writing numbers, and many other activities that will strengthen their fine motor skills. Ten children max per session. You may choose one or more sessions at $20/session. Discount for six or more sessions. Individual sessions also available upon request.

Science Fair Camp
Have your child get a head start on next year's Science Fair project by attending a fun and energized science fair camp this summer.
Jon Sikora will be in charge of the course that in the fine Walker tradition is designed to define the science project idea, understand the science required and produce a detailed research plan.

Preschool Reading Readiness
Students will review letter recognition and letter sounds, basic sight words and practice with word families/rhyming (phonemic awareness).

Preschool Math Madness

G.I.R.L.S. (Girls Improving Relationships, Lifestyles, and Self-Esteem)
A self-enrichment camp for rising 4th - 5th grade girls.
Led by: Leah Carter, Lower School Counselor and Anna Kennedy, Upper School Counselor
Date: June 14 - 18 from 8:45 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
Grades: Rising 4th - 5th grade girls. Now accepting rising 3rd graders.
Location: Gatti Hall in Lower School Building
Cost: $160 due by May 17 (make checks payable to The Walker School)
A minimum of 15 girls and maximum of 25 girls for this camp. The camp is open to girls outside of The Walker School as long as they are rising 4th and 5th graders. This will allow the opportunity for your daughter tor invite a friend to participate from another school.
The cost includes daily themed snacks, 5 art projects that participants will take home at the end of the week, including a self-designed t-shirt, an end of the week parent program, and most importantly the wonderful experience of spending time building friendships with other girls.
Topics Include:
- What it means to be a girl
- Taking care of myself
- Building healthy friendships
- Feeling good about myself
Each day the girls are introduced to the topic through fun, engaging lessons, an art activity, a team building activity, story time, snack, and drama. The week wraps up with a fun, entertaining parent presentation put on by the girls.

The Six Traits of Writing Workshop
This workshop presents for one week only, the Six Traits of Writing adopted by the Middle School English Department as part of the curriculum.

Robotics Camp
Robotics Camp for Rising 4th and 5th Grade Students
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to create your own animated movie? Or maybe you would like to work with a robot that is yours to command? During the Walker Robotics Camp for rising 4th and 5th grade students campers will be introduced to programming by using Scratch and Scribbler robots. During this 5 day session campers will program their Scribbler robots to create an original work of art. They will also design simple animations using Scratch, a programming language that makes it easy to create interactive stories, animations, games, music, and art. Want to know more? Summer Creative Writing and Children’s Literature Camps

The Canterbury Tales
Summer Scholars Colloquium
Join English Department Chair Kate McConnaughey for a virtual pilgrimage to Canterbury with host Geoffrey Chaucer. Your fellow travelers include the Wife of Bath, the Miller, the Clerk, the Knight, and others—each with a story to tell. We will read selected tales ranging from the touching and traditional to the (very) risqué and ribald. Along the way students will explore the history of the English language and experience listening to and speaking in Middle English.

Let's Write Right
A Writing Resource for Rising 6th - 8th Graders.
Do you want to give your son or daughter the "writing edge" for school this fall? Does he/she need the "secret formulas" for better writing? Could your child benefit from an intensive week of writing with instruction individualized specifically for him/her? If so, Let's Write Right is for your student!

Let's Write Right is a summer writing resource for rising 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students. The basic elements of developing a good essay will be covered and internalized in a fun and exciting atmosphere. Familiarity will be established with structuring topic sentences, building solid paragraphs, proofreading and copy correction, and problem solving. In addition, the traits of effective writing will be taught. These include: Stimulating ideas, Logical Organization, Stimulating Voice, Original Word Choice, and Effective Sentence Style. Each student will have the opportunity to choose 5 Types of Writing to explore from the following essay types: Cause/Effect, Comparison/Contrast, Definition, Description, Narration, Persuasive, and Process Analysis essays. This is an intensive camp where emphasis will be in individual student achievement and individualized instruction.

Broadway Stars Camp (Musical Theatre)
Students perform Broadway’s biggest hits and learn the proper vocal and dance techniques to do it! Students will present their work at the end of the week.

The Broadway Stars Musical Theatre Camp is designed to foster self-confidence, creative thinking, problem-solving skills, trust, and discipline through the medium of the performing arts. The camp will conclude with a showcase on the final day to which family and friends are invited.
Participants should bring a snack everyday. Minimum enrollment for the class is 10 students with a maximum of 30. Camp is Monday through Friday and is held in the Studio Theatre located in the Upper School. THE TEACHERS
Katie Arjona is head of the Upper School Fine Arts department and teaches drama, dance, public speaking and English at The Walker School. She has worked in New York City as the Director of The Young Actors Program at The Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute and taught numerous theatre camps in Virginia, North Carolina, Florida, Georgia, and Maine. She has her B.A. in Theatre and Political Science and an M.F.A. in Theatre for Youth from the University of North Carolina Greensboro.
Samantha Walker is the head of the vocal music program in the Upper and Middle School and also teaches general music in the Middle School. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from Kennesaw State University. She is also the choir director at the Welcome All Baptist Church in Smyrna. Additionally she is a soprano substitute with Vintage Vocals, an international singing trio that has toured with the USO.

Our soccer camp provides players an opportunity to work with the current boys and girls varsity soccer staff and players. Each session will be dedicated to working with each individual on technical and tactical aspects of their game. Here at Walker we have adopted a short sided game model for ou training as we believe that it maximizes each camper's number of touches on the ball, while providing them with ample opportunities to learn during the game. Ultimately, the game is the greatest teacher. Let them play!

Camp Bravo for Strings
Camp Bravo for Strings is a fun and exciting opportunity for your child to learn to play a string instrument. Tailored for beginners, students can choose between violin and cello. Note reading and playing technique will be taught in a small group setting, and each week will conclude with a concert on Friday at noon. Parents have the option of selecting Week 1 only or both Weeks 1 and 2.
An instrument, bow, and case will be provided for your child for the duration of the camp for no additional charge.

She has taught privately for the past 15 years and is on the faculty Stringendo School for Strings in West Palm Beach, Florida.

Summer Scholars Colloquium

This camp is designed for the young student (rising 6th grader) that is interested in being part of the band at the Walker School. Fun activities will include both games and instruction designed to make playing an instrument educational and fun.

Wolverine Attack Drum line Camp

The spectacular and award-winning Walker Concert Band and the GISA State Champion Wolverine Attack Pep Band will begin to prepare for another exciting season of incredible music and fun. This camp is also for those students that want to get their chops back into shape for the Concert Band or the Jazz Band before school starts. Membership to the Concert Band or the Wolverine Attack Pep Band is not mandatory in order to attend. This camp is for rising 9th-12th graders. (no audition required)
