Patrons of the Arts

POTA stands for “Patrons of The Arts” but it could just as easily represent “Parents of The Arts.”   Walker parents created POTA to support all Fine Arts at The Walker School.  We support each Fine Arts Department from Preschool to Upper School with volunteers and by providing for some items for the classrooms benefiting each student whether he participates in a Fine Arts extracurricular activity or not.

The Arts are vital to the comprehensive development of our children.  The Arts help students address new challenges, build confidence, and grow creatively.  POTA is proud to help Walker embrace the value of each student’s artistic expression – whether through the visual arts such as photography, drawing, painting, and sculpting, or through the performing arts including band, orchestra, chorus, theatre, hand bells, or dance.

We thank all of those members who have volunteered their time and talents to assist the arts at Walker.  POTA membership is for everyone and we invite those not yet 2011-2012 members to join.  Fine Arts are an important part of a well-rounded education and POTA helps make that happen.

This year, as a gift for joining or renewing an annual membership in Patron of the Arts before September 9, members will be recognized in the POTA souvenir program, distributed at approximately 30 Fine Arts events.  Members joining after that date will be recognize in an insert in the program.

You will also receive an invitation to a PATRONS PARTY on October 22 to celebrate your Art of Giving. The membership form is available on the POTA website if you would like to join in celebrating the arts at Walker.

Aside from becoming a member, there are other ways to get involved and offer support:

·          Advertise your business in the 2011-2012 Fine Arts Souvenir Program

·          Create a tribute ad for a special student, teacher, or program in the 2011-2012 Fine Arts Souvenir Program

·          Volunteer to help with a POTA committee or the parent/teacher liaison program

·          Mark your calendar for upcoming performances and events

Encourage your children to explore their creative side and see how art can make a difference in their lives!
