Welcome to the Lower School where meaningful relationships inspire transformative learning. Our first through fifth graders grow from curious young learners into critically thinking, increasingly independent, cooperatively collaborative, and admirably honest young students through curriculum and programs designed specifically for elementary-aged children. Unique learning experiences and a myriad of authentic opportunities for personal and academic growth are trademarks of Walker’s Lower School.
Supportive and experienced teachers work together to build a solid foundation upon which increasingly sophisticated academic and personal experiences are built. At the heart of the school are the relationships that develop between teachers and students both in and outside of the classroom. In addition to the core academic subject areas, students experience foreign language, drama, art, physical education, technology, media and music classes. Special events, field trips, outdoor education trips, weekly assemblies, and the annual spring showcase add to the rich fabric of the Lower School and highlight the many gifts and talents of both the faculty and student body.
Our partnership with parents is essential, and we welcome parent involvement in the Lower School and in the greater school community. On any given day, you may find parents working with children in math rotations, celebrating faculty and staff during quarterly appreciation lunches, applauding their child’s presentation during a weekly assembly or author’s tea, participating in a coffee talk or other parent education event, or volunteering their time and expertise in our library or art room.
