The Walker School was founded in 1957 by Father Joseph T. Walker, the rector of St. James’ Episcopal Church. The school is a non-profit, non-sectarian, independent, coeducational, college preparatory day school. Located 15 miles northwest of Atlanta, Marietta is a city with a population of approximately 67,000.
A small, high caliber institution, Walker admits students from the entire metro Atlanta area and is known for the personalized attention that each student receives. Eight Georgia counties are represented in the 2011-2012 enrollment of 1042. The Upper School (9-12) is comprised of 377 students.
Admission to Walker is selective at all levels. As stated in the School’s mission statement, Walker strives to maintain a diverse student body with respect for all individuals and “to provide an excellent college preparatory education in a nurturing environment that values personal integrity, prizes creativity, and inspires the lifelong love of learning.”
The school provides a rigorous, traditional, college preparatory curriculum and offers a
challenging array of 23 Advanced Placement (college level) courses.
Parents are actively involved in all aspects of school life. The commitment to their children’s education is so strong that many families make significant sacrifices of both time and money to send their children to Walker.
