Sustainability Policy

One of the goals of The Walker School is to follow sound environmental practices. We have a responsibility to take a leadership role in environmental concerns and the effects it will have on future generations. We are committed to integrating appropriate sustainability principles, programs, and procedures. Development and implementation of environmental programs will be dependent on the joint efforts of staff and students. The Walker School will strive to improve our stewardship to minimize our impact on the environment.

Our guidelines:

  • Reduce the consumption of energy and water resources and promote conservation strategies
  • Facilitate sound waste management procedures with a strong emphasis on reduction strategies (reduce, recycle, reuse and re‐think)
  • Promote the retention and development of natural landscaping on school property
  • Consider and include environmental principles in all relevant policies, procedures, and practices regarding education, maintenance, purchasing, waste management, energy, health and safety, construction, and transportation
  • Empower and support partnerships in developing classroom, school, and community environmental actions
  • Integrate environmental education and literacy into the content and methodology of instructional programs
  • Form an environmental committee comprising faculty, staff, alumni, students, and parents
  • Communicate school environmental activities to faculty, staff, students, parents, and the local community
  • Evaluate and review policy performance on a yearly basis implications, use of community resources and agencies, and the involvement of the Walker School and local community.

Our environmental decisions will consider life‐cycle costs, appropriate budget and financial

Please help us to make a better world for our children by reducing, reusing, or recycling. Recycling not only cuts down on materials and toxic substances being buried in landfills, but also lowers the need to commit more natural resources to product manufacturing.
